Why Do We Deconstruct Books?

My question that pertains to the literacy narratives is, Why does a child’s literacy progress regresses as they enter school and become a chore?

  • Learning styles don’t match with the teacher
  • Reading becomes a chore
  • Do not get to pick books anymore, books are assigned, and then quizzed
  • Now confined to a classroom to read
  • Held to a standard that they can not keep up with
  • Falls behind the standards and is left behind

In my narrative I explain that once I entered school I became disengaged in reading and writing.  It became a chore, until 4th grade.  My teacher turned reading and writing around for me for, at least that year.  Then reading and writing went back to being a chore but, I did not write that because I figured it was better to end with a happy ending.
